Smart Traveller Keyrings

How quickly a holiday can change

from this

to this

if you lose your phone

Holidays are meant to be enjoyable and fun.

A holiday that is planned and looked forward to, can soon become the holiday from hell if you happen to lose your phone or even worse, have it stolen.

Imagine being in a place where you cannot speak the language and everything of importance is in your phone (even the name and location of where you are staying, as you cannot pronounce it.)

We understand that these things happen all too regularly, so would like to introduce you to the Smart Traveller Keyring.

What is NFC?

The Smart Traveller Keyring really is smart.

Inside each stylish leather keyring is a very small NFC chip.

NFC is the same sort of technology that is currently used by NASA, Google and Apple to name just a few. When an NFC chip is tapped by an NFC enabled smartphone - magic happens.

Whatever information has been programmed onto the chip is instantly readable on the phone that taps it.

How does the Keyring work?

Go to Settings on your smartphone and type in 'NFC' in the search bar

If it comes up, turn the switch to on.

If you cannot find it on your phone when you search, you may need to go to the APP store and download the one for your phone. ('Simply NFC' app for iPhones or type in 'search NFC' for Android)

Once you have the 'NFC' set up, then keep the phone turned on and tap the back of your phone somewhere on the keyring to open the Smart Traveller website in your phone. (Move the keyring around on the back of the phone until it connects)

Your Smart Traveller holiday site will now open instantly.

How to set up a free google account to build your Holiday info into.

Set up your own unique gmail account if you don't already have one.

Once you have your gmail done, then open this link or type in https://sites.google.com/new

Now that you have a gmail account, Google Sites will open instantly in the gmail address you have used.

Go to bottom right hand corner of Google Sites and click the plus sign to start your new site.

So easy to build but if you have any trouble, click below for a guided tour.

What can I put into my smart traveller page?

If you can think of it, then you can add it.

Some of the information that I think is vitally important when travelling.

Full Itinerary: This can be a photo of one that you have from the travel agent or in the example below, you can lay each section out individually.

Attractions you plan to visit : links to each place in case you need to phone or give a driver directions

Phone numbers: Phone numbers at home that you may need and the phone number of the embassy in that country.

Medication: a list of medication that you are travelling with and the dosage of each

What is in your suitcase: This is really handy when it comes to leaving a place so that you know you are not missing anything as you travel to your next destination.

Once finished building your site, simply click the publish button in the top right hand corner

Then go to share icon on right of page next to publish and make sure that you have clicked

'Anyone can find and view the published site'.

Click done and you are finished.

Now it is time to load your Smart Traveller Site to your keyring.

You will have to load an NFC writer app for this.

Try Trigger Writer for Android

NFC TagInfo by NXP for iPhone 7 and higher.

NFC is not compatible with iPhone 6 or under.
